Apple's new iMac line with Intel Core 2 Duo

Apple has announced that its entire iMac line now features the new Intel Core 2 Duo all models, delivering up to 50 percent faster performance than the previous iMac.

With new Intel processors, Apple took on low-cost PC front. One of the criticisms that have long suffered from the company that its products are more expensive than comparable systems Windows, but these arguments have been refuted.

Core Duo is first in the world low-power (less than 25 watts) Dual Core microprocessor with the previous low being 260 and Opteron 860 HE at 55 watts. Core Duo was released January 5, 2006, with the other components of the platform Napa. It is the first Intel processor to be used in Apple Macintosh products (although the machines Apple Developer Transition Kit, non-production units distributed to some developers, used Pentium 4).

Intel Core Duo has two cores on a single die, a 2 MB shared L2 cache by the two cores and a bus arbitrator that controls both L2 cache and FSB access. Upcoming steppings of Core Duo processors will also include the possibility disable a core to save power.

The new iMac lineup includes four models: 1.83 GHz and 2.0 GHz 17-inch, a 2.16 GHz 20 inches and the brand new 2.16 GHz 24-inch iMac, and features the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which offers performance up to 50 percent faster than the previous iMac 20-inch industry benchmarks running standard.

As the 17-inch and 20 inch versions, features 24-inch iMac the new 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor with speeds of 1.83 GHz and 2.33 GHz. It also doubles the amount of L2 cache, two cores with 4 MB shared between them. Turbocharged performance results, making it easier? and more fun? than ever to work with digital photos, movies, music, and web.
